Call for Nominations

Nature is a Scout’s playground. A place to discover new things and embark on great adventures. A place where youth gain leadership skills by leading their peers on meaningful outdoor adventures.

Kids in Scouts have fun adventures discovering new things and experiences they wouldn’t have elsewhere. Along the way, kids develop into capable, confident and well-rounded individuals, better prepared for success in the world.

Through a youth-led program, Scouts pave their own path to outdoor adventure and fun; selecting and planning the activities they want to pursue; surrounded by committed and passionate Scouters who create a safe and inclusive environment.

Along the way Scouts develop the skills, values and character that will guide them through every future adventure, at every stage a life. The perfect place for kids to be kids, memories are made and friendship are forged through the countless campfires, hikes and overnight camps.

Scouting in Newfoundland and Labrador hold assets in two non-profit corporations. Scouts Canada (Newfoundland and Labrador) Properties Inc. owns our provincial campsite at Camp Nor’ Wes, near Terra Nova Park. Scouts Canada (Newfoundland and Labrador) Trust Foundation Inc. holds investments and makes grants to youth to fund their attendance at camps and jamborees. Both corporations are registered charities.

The directors are elected by the voting members of the corporations. Directors give strategic leadership, establish policy, and oversee operational and financial performance of the corporation within the context of Scouts Canada’s governance principles.

The corporations are recruiting individuals to serve on their Boards of Directors and the committees that oversee their investments and disbursements.

Opportunities include:

Investment Committee
This committee oversees the investments that fund the grants the Council makes to keep the cost of provincial jamborees down and fund travel to jamborees elsewhere.

Trust Disbursement Committee
This committee makes the funding decisions on applications from groups planning to travel to out-of-province Scouting events.

Property Disbursement Committee
This committee makes the funding decisions on spending at Camp Nor Wes.

Camp Nor Wes Committee
This new committee will oversee the operation, marketing, and maintenance of Camp Nor Wes.
